Strategy[]

During the first half of the game, Abenaki has two key features that it must work with. First, because Abenaki is a one province minor, it has the ability to migrate. Each time it does so, it is rewarded 50 monarch points in each category. Migrating can be done every 5 years unless there are other modifiers. Migrating to the north offers lower base tax provinces, but is relatively safe in isolation. On the contrary, migrating south yields higher base tax provinces yet puts you closer to other native tribes. Once Abenaki ceases to be one province, either through conquest or colonization, it can no longer migrate.

Another key feature of Native American tribes is the Native advancements. These serve similarly to ideas and can each one can be obtained by spending 500 monarch points in the respective category. Some key advancements include extra tax income, a higher force limit, and a colonist. The last idea in each category decreases the cost for technology by 100%, which is needed considering the Native American tech group has a 250% cost penalty towards technology.

Once the Europeans show up, Abenaki can reform the government. The requirements for this are that all native advancements are completed and you neighbor a European core. By following through with the reform, Abenaki changes its government type, loses all the benefits of native advancements, and enters the western tech group.
