General Information[]
Herulia, at its start, is a Norse Scanian barbarian tribe located in the Denmark and Skâneland areas, Scandinavia region of the Western Europe subcontinent. The barbarian tribe exists at the start of the timeline year 2, with cores, bordering fellow Norse Jutland west, uncolonized native land north and the waters of the Baltic Sea region southwest.
Herulia will cede Siâland (12) and Laaland (1983) to Denmark in 340, being left just with Skâneland and Bornholm (1981). In 380, Herulia will be partitioned between West Geats, Denmark, and East Geats, losing its cores and never appearing on the map again.

Strategy[]
If starting before 340, you can usually culture switch to Danish with a fair bit of ease (but you should try to do it before annexing any Jute land). This will allow you to form Denmark as soon as you conquer and core Jutland's provinces, and therefore giving you non-default missions and, if you wish, to switch away from Norse ideas.
If beginning in the earliest start dates, the only way for Herulia to expand is south, and the only country that you can invade without using naval units is Jutland. If you annex Jutland, the next country you will border will be Anglia to the south, and then your options for countries to invade will open up. You will be able to expand for some more time before bordering Rome. Your ability to expand eastward should be functionally unlimited for some time as long as you are powerful enough to take on Germanic tribes and their allies. You can also expand into the region of Britain to your west to gain more land. This can be done by diplomatically vassalizing a small country like Icenia or Kent, or by going to war and taking their land in a peace treaty. If you do choose to go to war, you might have to declare war without a casus belli.
Rome, unless it collapses early, will likely be your biggest threat for a considerable amount of time. If you choose not to ally with any powerful countries, and you don't want to wait for the Migration Age, then you will probably have to go to war with Rome and its vassals by yourself. To be able to support an army powerful enough to defeat Rome, you might have to conquer a considerable portion of Germany and Britain.
If you do choose to wait until the Migration Age to invade, then you should make sure you have a border with Byzantium, Gallia, Rome, or West Rome, so that you can take the Great Migration decision as soon as you are able to. If you have a lot of provinces, you should consider not taking the decision, as it will remove any provinces you had before the war (do keep in mind, however, that this effect cannot reduce you to below 8 provinces).
