Qara Qoyunlu, at its start, is a Shia Azerbaijani tribal federation located mainly in the Caucasia region of the Near East subcontinent and the Persia region and subcontinent, both in the Asia continent. The kingdom emerges from Shia Ganja and Jalayirids, Sunni Bitlis and Miaphysite Armenia in 1375, gaining cores, bordering fellow Shia Jalayirids south, Persia southeast and Shirvan northeast, Sunni Eretna west, Bitlis south and Orthodox Georgia north.

Qara Qoyunlu will be annexed into Sunni Aq Qoyunlu on February 4, 1469, losing cores and never appears on-map again.
